Yesterday while at our weekly men's team meeting at the office (Coffee Life) we met a young man from China by the name of Yang Ping Jian, or simple "Kevin." Kevin joined us at our table and we talked for a couple of hours. During the course of the conversation, Kevin told us that he had recently gone to the Botanical Gardens and swam in the fresh spring water there. This is something that I have been wanting to do for a long time, so I finally decided to give it a try. David and I both set up a time to meet Kevin on Saturday morning.
So this morning we went to the Botanical Gardens and took turns getting in to the freezing cold water. One of the worst parts of the whole process was standing on top of ice barefoot while waiting to get in. Of course the water was super cold as well. It took me a few moments to build up the courage to stick my head under the water!
So David and I have decided that this can become something that we take our winter visitors to while in Kharkov :)
After this we had Kevin over to our apartment for coffee. After coffee David, Kevin, and I headed to the market for some Chinese food. After the market, Kevin hung out over here for a little bit longer.
While Kevin was getting ready to leave he told me that he flipped through the New Testament that I had given him the day before. I told him that I would love to talk to him about it sometime and he said that it sounded like a good idea.
Kevin will be leaving Kharkov in a couple of weeks to go to Hong Kong and will return in April. We hope to keep in contact through email and Skype. Please pray for David and I as we continue to develop a friendship with this great guy! --
